DIRECTORS
THOMAS FAHLSTROM
Director
Thomas E. Fahlstrom has been directing plays since he was in high school himself and is the playwright of Silen Courage. A member of the Milan High School faculty from 1977 until his retimrement in 2012, Fahlstrom has used his directing talents to bring over 20 shows to the Milan community. His most recent production was Guys and Dolls oin March of this year.
Fahlstrom has both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University with an emphasis in communication and theater arts. He acquired his Master's degree in Drama for the Young through the nationally acclaimed Theatre for the Young program at EMU. He is currenlty also on the faculty at Eastern and Washtenaw Community College where he teaches public speaking classes as an adjunct lecturer.
in 1977, Silent Courage premiered at the newly complete Milan HIgh School Libriaum. The play adapted by Fahlstrom from Claire Hutchet Bishop's story Twenty and Ten was well received my Milan audiences. A revised version proved to be moving and educational experiences for the student actors as they relived the conflict of children caught up in the Holocaust.
Fahlstrom has sung with two choirs over the years, Blessed Sacramet Adult Choir in Toldeo, Ohio and Measure for Measure, a Men's Choral Society in Ypsilanti. He was also the drama directore for First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor for several years in teh 1990s. Occasionally when time permitted, he has acted with local community theaters. Two of his favorte roles have been Mayor Shinn in Music Man and Pastor Oglethorpe in Smoke on the Mountain. He has lived in the area since 1972 and now resides in Ypsilanti. In his spare time (!) he enjoys being an grandfather to Miles, Maren, Caleb, Annalyn, Benjamin, and Victoria, being with family, and enjoying the company of his friends.
